.::THE FILM::.

Detective Danny Fisher (John Cena) and his partner Hank Carver (Brian White) are sitting on patrol one night when Fisher spots Miles Jacksonís (Aidan Gillen) girlfriend driving a car. Jackson is wanted for multiple crimes in the area and is trying to escape the scene of his latest deal. Fisher stops the car and Miles and the girlfriend try getting away but the cops get to them in time. The girlfriend tries running into the roar but a car hits her and kills her instantly. Miles vows revenge against Fisher, saying that he will pay for what he did on this day. Flash forward to sometime later...

Fisher is now living in a nice house with his girlfriend Molly (Ashley Scott) and the house isnít in the best of shape. He forgot to get the sink fixed and now he had to call a plumber to get it done, and because of this Molly storms out of the house ticked off at him. Fisher shrugs it off and exits the house only to get a call on his phone, and guess who it is. Miles has escaped from prison, and lets Fisher know heís going to be involved in a game that has 12 rounds. At the end of the rounds if he survives all of them he will return Molly to him safely. Fisher turns around to see his house blown up, along with the plumber inside being the innocent victim. That was round one, but wait, Mollyís been kidnapped?? Yup, thatís right, she gets on the boat to go to work and Miles takes hold of her there.

Itís up to Fisher to save his girlfriend and survive the remaining 11 rounds. Throughout the movie he progresses to various stages of heroism and choices in his life, such as trying to save an overweight hotel clerk and escaping a burning building by throwing a spindle outside and spinning it out down. Can he save his girlfriend or will Fisher get a game over on his life?

Look, I love these kinds of films. They let me escape the crappy reality my life normally is and let me have some fun with these movies. Fisherís character is funny, action-oriented, and doesnít make stupid decisions like other heroes do in other flicks. That being said, I thought this was one of the better action flicks Iíve seen this year. The story is believable and the characters arenít stupid in the slightest.

The problem I have with the movie is that Miles manages to destroy like half the city they live in yet the FBI and police canít find him. There is one point where they do, but they canít kill him and itís sort of complicated. It just seems a little too unbelievable that they canít stop one man, and the fact that Fisher has probably killed a bunch of people and destroyed millions of dollars worth of property doesnít help either.

Then again, the problem is the best of the flick. I know it sounds weird, but if you throw away everything I just talked about, itís a hell of a great movie. The plot is good, the round sequences are action-packed, and the characters arenít lacking intelligence. This is a great movie if you take it for what it is; just donít bother thinking while watching it.

Commentary by Renny Harlin (Unrated Cut Only): Harlin talks about everything that happens in the film, how it was shot, and also about the production values. He keeps pace for the movie but his voice is fairly dull and most will probably fall asleep listening to it, to all others though feel free to enjoy.

Commentary by Daniel Kunka and John Cena (Unrated Cut Only): Cena and Kunka crack jokes throughout the track, and I found myself laughing quite a bit. The two are great on this commentary and mainly talk about the cast involved and a little smidge about Cenaís professional career every now and then. I highly recommend this track over the first, for both entertainment and educational value.

John Cena Stunts (10 minutes): This takes an interesting look at the stunts performed in the movie, and how some of them were accomplished. I actually found it to be somewhat entertaining, even though Iím not really into this sort of thing.

Gag Reel (5 minutes): I was thinking that the cast would flub lines like every other gag reel, but instead the cast just acts goofy and tells some dumb stories.

Alternate Endings (2 minutes): These endings arenít really ďalternateĒ but just a few different lines thrown in for poor measure. I wanted two minutes of my life back after watching these.

Due to the fact that this is a watermarked screener, I canít rate the video accordingly. If a non-watermarked copy comes in Iíll update the score accordingly.

The Dolby Surround 5.1 track is loud, engaging, and down-right awesome. The movie for the most part is non-stop action and the action sequences sound phenomenal. My speakers shook during the tram scene and the elevator crash scene was loud as well. Surround use is perfect for this flick, as I never had any issues with it being too overpowering or taking over the dialogue in anyway. The only problem I found in the audio quality is the fact that the dialogue isnít all that loud to begin with, and doesnít really give me that power that the action scenes did. Itís not a bad thing, but it prevents it from being perfect. Although, second best isnít always that bad is it?

Hate me if you must, but this movie isnít as bad as you may have heard. Itís just one of those ďif you can suspend disbelief for 100 minutes then itís a great flickĒ type of film. The special features package isnít the best, but a top-rate audio track sure makes this one a great rental for the upcoming hot summers.
