.::THE FILM::.

ďIn the year 2525, there are women with the will to surviiiiiiiiive...Ē

That was the first line of the opening theme song to ďCleopatra 2525Ē, a cheesy, low budget, sci-fi jiggle-fest that graced syndicated television with its presence for 2 seasons from 2000-2001. The show starts off with an origin episode where we meet Cleo(Jennifer Sky), a young stripper from our time who, when going to get breast implants(Iím not making this up. I wish I was lol), somehow got transported to the future during the operation. We donít get to see this sequence, we are simply told this when Cleo wakes up in the presence of Sarge(Victoria Pratt) and Hal(Gina Torres), two warrior women from the year 2525 who seem to be fighting some sort of never-ending battle to rid the world of evil robots called the Baileys. Hal has some kind of mental link with a voice known simply as The Voice who sends them on their secret missions. Cleo experiences a little culture shock at first but sheís soon joining Hal and Sarge in their adventures.

Okay, letís get this out of the way. The show is BAD. REALLY bad. The FX are laughable, the acting is not very good (although Gina Torres isnít too bad here at all), the makeup on all the aliens is just plain ugly, the show looks like a cross between "Power Rangers" and soft porn on Cinemax (hell, it IS a cross between "Power Rangers" and soft porn on Cinemax), and the writing isnít very good. Despite all of those things working against it, I donít hate Cleopatra 2525. In fact, I sort of like it. Sort of. The thing I like the most about it is that this show (in the hands of better producers/writers) could really be something special. I like the three lead characters. Cleoís constant references to pop-culture are somewhat annoying because theyíre not very well written but other than that, the three leads are fairly solid from a likeability perspective. I even think the show has a couple of good ideas in it. In the minds of the right creator (like Joss Whedon or J.J. Abrams or Chris Carter maybe), this show couldíve been far more intelligent and entertaining. Hell, it SHOULD be already. It was exec produced by Sam Raimi! As is, itís nothing more than harmless cheap sci-fi with good looking heroines. Itís not a horrible show, itís just not a particularly good one. Hardcore fans will love it (I know youíre out there) and everybody elseÖwellÖthe best I can say about it for you is if you like TV shows that are so bad that theyíre fun to watch, you might try this. Everybody else, you might want to rent it instead of buying it.

.::SPECIAL FEATURES::.

Not a whole lot here to like. The best thing here is the Outtakes. It is kind of funny to see the actors mess up and cuss and stuff. Itís quite obvious that NOBODY took the show seriously. The special effects/Stunt montage is a joke though. Itís nothing but 2 minutes of the actors jumping around on cords and swung around in front of blue screen with no dialogue or anything. The deleted scenes are dull and a bit strange. They have no music score and all of the scenes where weíre supposed to hear The Voice arenít finished so you can hear someone on set saying all of the Voiceís lines aloud so the actors can react to it.

The only other special feature is a bonus episode of "Earth 2". It wasnít all that bad but itís duller than dirt and I can understand why itís no longer on the air.

.::AUDIO & VIDEO::.

Wow, this show sure is loud! Heh. But yeah, itís better than it is on TV and the picture is clearer too. Itís so clear you can tell exactly what scenes used blue screen and what didnít. Hooray!

.::OVERALL::.

"Cleopatra 2525" just isnít a very good show. Itís not horrible so I can recommend it for those who want Power Ranger porn, but not for too many other people. Iíve come to like it a little bit but I donít know if Iím ever gonna watch any of these episodes again after watching the first time. Not as bad as you might think but not too good either.
