.::THE FILM::.

Synopsis: Welcome to Trona, California - a dead-end desert town for people with dead-end lives. And no one is going nowhere faster than Ray Tuckby (Dylan Walsh), a mild-mannered underground parking lot attendant saddled with a neurotic shut-in wife and an ill-mannered, sexually frustrated son (Jonah Hill). That is until Ray's life totally bottoms out. Now, with the help of a childhood sweetheart and a concerned stranger (Danny DeVito), Ray is about to take back his life - and his town - in this offbeat comedy that proves it's never too late to grow - even if you're all grown up.

Considering this film stars Justin Long, Jonah Hill, Danny DeVito and Dylan Walsh I had somewhat high hopes that this would be a decent indie film that I would enjoy. I was wrong, very wrong.

Just Add Water is about Ray, a man who lives in a deserted ghost town called Trona. Every day he drives his beat up car to work and then comes home to a wife who never cooks and has major issues and a son who has is useless. Every day he drives to the local super market where he flirts with the cashier who is an old crush, picks up whatever they happen to have in stock and goes home to dinner. But there's a catch. The town is run by a group of thugs who bought up most of the land when the city went kaput several years back due to a chemical spill or something like that.

Ray has to now pay a weekly toll just to use the roads and make sure the rest of the town has paid the rent before the self proclaimed mayor Dirk shuts off the power and water. Soon finds out his wife has been cheating on him with his brother and his son is not really his so he begins his journey to change himself and bring the town back to its once glorious roots.

Simply put, this movie has no redeeming quality and is a real bore to watch. With Jonah Hill and Justin Long plastered on the DVD cover, I had kind of assumed it would have some comedic parts to it, but instead we get Jonah Hill who winds up dating a local hooker and Justin Long who does nothing. Danny DeVito at least has some point in the film and has an attractive wife who does a striptease, but everyone else, including the cute cashier; bring very little to the film to make it watchable.

Please, do yourself a favor and skip this. The film only runs 91 minutes but it felt like hours.

.::SPECIAL FEATURES::.

There are no Special Features at all. Not even a trailer.

.::AUDIO & VIDEO::.

Just Add Water is presented in 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. I was not that impressed with this transfer. The film has a very thick layer of grain present nearly the entire time.

Sony presents the film with a basic Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Much like the picture quality, this is nothing great at all. Rear speakers are rarely used, and the dialog gets a bit muffled randomly throughout the film.

.::OVERALL::.

Just Add Water would make a decent rental if you really like any of the actors in the film... otherwise I would skip it. There is no replay value at all, and with zero special features makes it an easy rental on a boring weekend... a very boring weekend.
