.::THE FILM::.

Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Banks) are life-long friends and share a small apartment together in Monroeville, P.A. where they struggle to pay the rent and bills. While Zack works for the local Bean-N-Go coffee shop, he simply can't come up with enough money to get everything handled and they soon find themselves without required utilities. While getting ready for their ten year high school reunion, a pair of teens catch Miri getting undressed (wearing granny panties no less!) and soon the video circulates on the Internet - unaware to both Zack and Miri - where "granny panties" becomes a hit! The two attend the high school reunion where they come up with an idea after talking to a rich gay porn actor and his boyfriend - shoot a porno on their own! If "granny panties' became a success why not one featuring her naked?

With a small investment from Zack's coworker Delaney (Robinson) the two quickly form a crew of potential porn stars and Zack gets started on a script that all geeks would love to watch - Star Whores. While Zack writes in sex scenes for him and Miri, the two slowly begin to realize they might have feelings for each other.

Smith tired to go a different direction with this film like he did with Clerks II - itís not overly crude like Mallrats - but instead gives us a Clerks II / Chasing Amy feel to the film which I really applaud him for. With his last "romantic" film being a disaster (Jersey Girl) he has won back my heart! Sure, there are several disgusting scenes that you would probably only see in a Smith film (face feces) but for the most part itís not as crude as his other films in the Askew Universe.

Rogen seems to play a similar character that he did in Knocked Up - only this time he appears to be a bit smarter and takes care of himself (hygiene-wise) a bit better. The other title star is Banks who has really become a presence in Hollywood. Three years ago I never even knew she existed and now she's popping up everywhere - TV and films. Cute and adorable this role suits her perfectly (interestingly enough, this was written with Rosario Dawson in mind).

One thing that bugs me is that the cover art depicts the characters in outfits they never wore in the film. I would assume it wouldn't be possible to show them in some of their "costumes" (or lack of) on the cover, but I can see they tried to pick several stereotypical porn film "costumes" instead that are associated with them. As a small bonus - there is a flier inside the case (advertising Weinstein BD titles) that is double-sided showing off their Star Whores costumes. Nice touch!

Popcorn Porn: The Making of Zack and Miri (65 Minutes; SD) - As with all Smith films, expect tons of information here on casting, filming, props, costumes etc. I skimmed through this and found it on par with his previous ones.

Deleted Scenes (90 Minutes; HD) - Wowzers! Here we get tons of deleted/extended scenes that run almost as long as the film itself! Some real gems here, but others were clearly not up to snuff (no pun intended).

Money Shots: Webisodes (48 Minutes; SD) - Like other Smith films, this should bring the laughs. (With Intro by Kevin Smith & Seth Rogen)

Comic-Con 2008 Panel (23 Minutes; SD) - Sadly, I could not attend this panel because I got stuck at work, but I'm glad to see its included here (why don't other TV/Movies do this?). Itís mostly a Q&A with the cast.

Rounding out the disc is Outtakes (13:00; SD), Seth vs. Justin: Battle For Improvisational Supremacy Part 1 (7 Minutes; SD) and of course BD-Live.

Oddly enough, there is no Commentary here by Smith who usually has at least one... and for those wondering, Part 2 of the Seth vs. Justin is available exclusively through the Blockbuster DVD version of the film. Maybe those will pop-up on BD-Live at some point?

Zack and Miri Make a Porno cum -- see what I did there? -- to Blu-ray on a 50GB disc. I was really not expecting this one to pack such a punch but it did! Colors are sharp and blacks nice and inky. Several scenes will appear "rough" but that's intended as we are supposed to be watching the "porn" through a cheap video camera. No nasty EE or DNR for this one!

Weinstein has included a rich English 5.1 TrueHD track for this release. Considering the film is very dialog heavy, you should have no qualms about this release. Dialog comes across nice and only a few scenes really require the full 5.1 feel. It won't blow your mind, but itís on par with other comedies.

I can see myself re-watching this film over and over again like I have with Clerks II and Chasing Amy - itís funny yet has a nice romantic twist to it. While some scenes may be a bit too much for the general public use to Apatow "raunchy" flicks (starring Seth Rogen of course), itís worth of a purchase.
